Grand Theft Auto 5 fans have been advised to purchase the PS3 retail version over the PSN digital download.

Downloading the game from the PlayStation Store not only comes at a high price, according to , but also with delayed textures and here pop-in.

"Cutting rapidly across several areas, the digital version has ground textures popping in half a second late - plus delays in the drawing of shadow maps and objects like grass," reads the report.

"For the disc release, these issues don't manifest to nearly the same extent, with the odd delay in rendering a plant or chair being the worst we see during several retrials.

"As compared to playing the 360 release with both discs installed to its HDD, the digital PS3 release isn't quite as nefarious with its object draw - but it's enough to take you out of the moment."

The issues are "less glaring" when playing with a Western Digital 500GB HDD PS3, but the report ultimately advises sticking to the Blu-ray version.

The same site previously advised purchasing the PS3 version of Grand Theft Auto 5 over its Xbox 360 counterpart for the best possible performance.

GTA 5 is out now on PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360, and has become the fastest-selling game in UK history.

The game received over two million mentions on Twitter in a 24-hour period surrounding its release, and has been tipped by bookmakers to become one of the biggest-selling games of all time.
